Evil blogging

By Luddie
Well, I just discovered that if you wait too long to blog about something, it becomes old news and suddenly no one cares anymore. So, brief mention...

School is over. I somehow had no classes on Friday, so Texas/West completed the first half of my undergraduate experience on Thursday afternoon.

In celebration (I mean, ahem, mourning) of the passing-on of our editors (uhm... I meant, graduation)... ack, let me try that sentence again.

As a goodbye to our curent editors, the incoming editors, as well as Courtney, Karen, Spork and I, conspired to make a one-page mock issue of the YellowJacket. It was entitled the Boltic Shroud, and contained many other inside jokes that kept Bolt and Shroud chuckling for half an hour at the recent newspaper party.

We printed it out in huge poster form with special paper I connived from Mr. Shields, from whom I "learned" Engineering Graphics back in my short-lived engineering days. Shroud and Bolt loved every bit of the mock paper, which was good, because every bit of it took an excruciating amount of work.

This was my big eye-opener experience to how much work goes into the paper. All year long I kinda watched Bolt walk about like a sleepless zombie or Shroud talk about "layout" but it all seemed so distant. Now... I have more respect for newspaper editors everywhere. Especial hats-off to those who pull a paper off every single day. What a grind.

And I also got to see the new place where the YellowJacket is being printed. A small newspaper office in Gladewater, TX. It was interesting being the first people reading the paper in print form. We found several typos before we came back to Longview, but overall it was satisfying to see the final product. (We being Spence, Michaela, Courtney, Spork and myself.)

I was struck by some of Michaela's first words upon opening the paper. "Wow... I've memorized all of this." Too bad that the people who work hardest on something usually ruin it for themselves. :|

Spence and I got up early the next morning to distribute the paper to the post office. We also dropped off stacks in the library and MSC-1. The librarian actually apologized for asking us to give her a copy, which we thought was funny, because we are certainly not opposed to interest in the newspaper. :D

I celebrate with you, count. what are you doing for the summer? I am probably to wait until you blog to hear it, but that will be in autumn, but I would hate to have to wait all that time. well, try not to drink too much vodka.

Go easy on it yourself, bro. I'd be happy to talk to any of my friends about my summer plans. Which of them might you be? :)

Something to say?
